Chibuto Solar Power Plant construction project

SAL Energia led the signing ceremony of the partnership contracts for the Chibuto Power Station Project, which was attended by prominent leaders and representatives of the organisations involved.

SAL Energia, as the project's proponent, joined forces with NORCONSULT, responsible for the feasibility study, and IMPACTO, an environmental consultancy, to go ahead with the project. These collaborations reflect our commitment to promoting sustainable development and renewable energies in Mozambique.

SAL Energia, in collaboration with Energy China, is developing the Chibuto Solar Power Plant Project. In its first phase, the project will have a capacity of 95 megawatts, with a future expansion to 200 megawatts. The project aims to solve national and regional energy problems, positioning Mozambique as the largest energy producer in the sub-Saharan region, benefiting not only Mozambique, but also neighbouring countries with energy challenges.

Patrício Chemane
Chairman, SAL Energia

This is an important project for Mozambique. It's a solar energy project, which is a renewable and clean source of energy, so it's a good thing. When we carry out an environmental impact assessment, we analyse the possible impacts of the project on the environment. If we identify potential negative impacts, we propose mitigation measures to eliminate or reduce these impacts on the biological environment, habitats, flora and fauna, as well as the socio-economic environment, covering the people who live in the area and their land.

John Hatton
Deputy General Manager, IMPACTO

The main objectives of the Chibuto Power Station Project are to increase power generation capacity in the southern region, meeting the growing demand for electricity, and to promote the energy transition, in line with the recently approved National Energy Transition Strategy by the Council of Ministers. This strategy aims to promote clean and renewable energies, reducing dependence on fossil energy sources and, consequently, reducing the negative impacts caused by CO2 emissions. We therefore support efforts to combat climate change.

Adelino Daúde
Executive Director, SAL Energia

The 95 megawatt Chibuto Solar Power Plant Project is a truly bold endeavour, with developers strongly committed to the country's development. It is believed that this project will revolutionise the supply of energy in the country and beyond, positioning SAL Energia as a strategic promoter of development. Energy generation is crucial for national progress, especially to sustain industry. As we know, industrialisation is not possible without an adequate supply of energy.
